Lithuanian silk designer recognized at the New York Fashion Week

Lithuanian silk designer designer Grete Svegzdaite was recognized at the New York Fashion week.

Lithuanian “GRETES SHOP” brand was selected among 70 young designers from all over the world to show their collections in this year’s New York Fashion Week.

Although the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over, the New York Fashion Week took place, with many international designers failing from being able to be present. “Being selected to display my silk accessories in the New York Fashion Week is an honor in itself, but this pandemic has made it even more unique. I have spent over 5 hours on Zoom calls with the journalists in the US, as well as the organizers”, Grete Svegzdaite said.

G. Svegzdaite says that the invitation to display her collection came 6 months ago, right before the start of the pandemic. “I have worked really hard to prepare for the event and was expecting to be able to travel there until the very last minute. Of course, this didn’t work out, however, the organizers made sure to include me in the preparations and the process online as much as possible”.

New York Fashion Week, held in February and September of each year, is a semi-annual series of events (generally lasting 7–9 days) when international fashion collections are shown to buyers, the press, and the general public. It is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, collectively known as the "Big 4", along with those in Paris, London, and Milan.
